Conservation Photographer - Photojournalist - Ocean Ambassador

About the Artist :
Hello! Nice to meet you & thank you for visiting my website!

I'm a visual storyteller who loves using photography to touch our hearts, spark our imagination - and inspire. With over 20 years' experience, my work spans photojournalism, travel & nature.

I'm passionate about ocean & reef conservation, and actively support organizations engaged in education, science & conservancy. Much of my work reflects the beauty and fragility of the ocean's creatures and endangered reefs around the world.

At home I support our NC coastal dive community.  Down Under Divers (based in Raleigh) hosts free meetings monthly (web broadcasts) to inspire divers with educational presentations from leading conservationists and marine scientists (eg., NASA, Oceana, OCEARCH, Marine Megafauna, WDHOF, Reef, etc.)  At the national level, I am an Associate member of the  Women Divers Hall of Fame - which recognizes women's achievements in scuba diving & marine science and awards annual scholarships for aspiring scientists.

What concepts do my art projects explore?

Shrinking habitats, endangered species, and what we have to lose if we don't do our part, however small, to save our oceans.  These photos share the breathtaking beauty of our world's endangered reefs & inhabitants.

"Under the Sea" is a selection of photographs taken in the some of the world's most colorful and endangered reefs including Bali, Egypt, Thailand, Hawaii. and various Caribbean islands.

Red Sea Project (Egypt) - I lived aboard ship working with other marine photographers and local guides, then travelled across the desert and up the Nile River.  Of the 1,100 species in the Red Sea, at least 20 percent are endemic (found only there).  Corals here are healthier than in the Caribbean & the Great Barrier Reef, and this is attracting scientific study in race to find solutions to save our other reef systems.  However, tourism is on the rise, and some reefs are seeing as many as 3,000 people/day which is concerning.
